RACISM KILLS

DID YOU KNOW?
BLACK PEOPLE only represent about 13% of the entire United States population, but make up 30% the incarcerated population due to racial disparities. This is about the same as the 60% white majority which also makes up about 30% of the incarcerated population.
BLACK PEOPLE are 5 times more likely to be arrested and receive longer sentences for the exact same crimes committed by a white person.
BLACK DRIVERS are 31% more likely to be stopped and harassed by law enforcement due solely to the color of their skin and racial profiling.
BLACK PEOPLE were stopped and frisked 54% more than any other race during the 2013 stop-and-frisk period in New York City, which has since been ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Black people were highly targeted and law enforcement/officers were literally told to target people of color above any other race.
BOTTOM LINE:
Racism is still alive and well in the United States systems and it is hurting the BLACK community. The world has this perception that a person of color is more likely to offend and repeat offenses when the color of one's skin is of NO factor. It's a lie that has gotten INNOCENT black men and women KILLED and continues to cripple the lives of U.S. citizens every day.

We must study history to truly understand why the majority of the black population is continually trapped in the poverty cycle and how the institution of CENTURIES of slavery still cripples an entire race of people. These are the factors that contribute to the overall economic condition of the BLACK community, not the color of one's skin. Economic conditions is what truly contributes to these alarming statistics. Factors that are outside any one person's control and are in fact institutionally manipulated to target the black community.

No race of people should be marginalized or discriminated against ever especially due solely to color of their skin.
Especially here in the United States.

#CHANGETHENARRATIVE BLACK QUEEN CHALLENGE
DEC 10, 2019 - Baltimore native, Destiny Harrison was only 21-years-old when she was gunned down inside her own beauty salon store, days after reportedly confronting two men trying to rob her store.

The manner in which this queen lost her life sheds light on so many aspects of the way our black queen's lives are continually degraded and discarded, especially by our own black men.

This challenge seeks to honor our black queens in memory of Destiny and to #changethenarrative of the way black women are often perceived and treated.

Submit your painting, drawing, photos of your black queen portrayal for a chance to win a $25 cash prize (must use CashApp) and be featured on The Great Black Narrative platform. Winners will be selected & announced at the end of each month based on submissions received. We MUST be the change we wish to see!
